What’s Happening at Bolden PTA? Highlights from our September meeting!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent PTA meeting—and a special shoutout to Perch in Maplewood Village for hosting our first in-person gathering of the year!

See below for a quick overview of what was discussed:

🏫 School & Recess Updates

• Supporting Our Recess & Lunch: Bolden administration is actively advocating for additional recess aides. We are also exploring opportunities for parent volunteers during lunch, supporting our Green Team composting efforts, and in the library. We appreciate your patience while the paperwork is sorted out!

• Outdoor Time: Admin, teachers, and the PTA are fully aligned on ensuring our kids get plenty of active outdoor recess time.

💡 Financial Highlights & Transparency

• Where Funds Go: The PTA typically raises and reinvests funds each year to cover non-curriculum enriching activities—including in-school assemblies, teacher grants, community socials, and classroom supplies.

• Early Year Investments: September is typically a high-spend month as we support teachers with back-to-school stipends, grants, welcome events, and new school merchandise.

• Financial Review Volunteers Needed: We are looking for two PTA members to help conduct a brief internal financial review of last year's budget. No accounting expertise is needed—a simple checklist is provided! (Contact our treasurers via the email on our contact page if interested.)

🎒 Committee & Event Preview

Our committees are hard at work planning a fantastic year for our students and families:

• Fall Traditions: Keep an eye out for details on our upcoming Walkathon (our biggest fundraiser of the year!), Harvestfest, Garden Planting Day, and Bobkittens (K–2) community gatherings.

• Community & Giving: We are partnering with local district resources to help ensure all Bolden families have necessary school essentials, like water bottles.

• Book Fair: Our annual Book Fair returns later this fall using the Equitable Book Fair Model so every student gets to select books.

• Fun Ahead: Mark your calendars for upcoming trivia nights, 5th-grade milestone events, spring socials, and the annual Variety Show later in the school year!

🤝 How to Get Involved

We love our caregiver volunteers! Whether you have an hour to spare or want to join a committee, there are plenty of ways to lend a hand:

1. Join the PTA: Official membership lets you vote on budget items, leadership, and stay connected.

2. Volunteer: Opportunities are available for upcoming events, committee roles, and restocking snacks in the teachers' lounge.

3. Sign Up via Membership Toolkit: Keep your family profile updated so you never miss an announcement or volunteer sign-up list.
